Running Marathon and Track Races in Japan/Asia

マラソン・陸上・駅伝

Cartagena 10K was a very important race for me. Because there is no chance to run a race in Colombia. So I prepared more carefully than usual. I ran the course the day before the race, and I visited the starting place 3 hours before the race. And I warmed up enough, I lined up 1 hour before the race to get a good position. Because the start was very narrow. I went there early to make completely sure I found a good spot. We started 15 minutes later than schedule. The course for 10k would have been two loops around the center of town. The tempurature was good to run, there was no strong wind. My condition was very good. I chased the leading runner. I didn't know wheather I should enter the city walls for the second loop. So I just followed the other runners. Then the goal appeared in front of me.... I thought I had missed the course. I was very very shocked. I had a lot of energy left to run the remaining 5k. When I reached the goal, my watch showed 19:06. I guess the time isn't accurate. When was walking around absent-mindedly near the goal, the ceremony for the winners started. My friend Jason won the race.So I said to him "Congratulations" and then I left the place with the feeling that I can't understand and a lot of energy left. I didn't sleep well because I was angry. I knew the facts when I read today's newspaper. Every runner ran 5k, there was no 10k. But The title of the article in the newspaper was "Cartagena 10K". I didn't understand anything. The newspaper doesn't say the reason why.

1 15:53,
2 17:36,
3 18:03
If I had know that the race was only a 5k (actually, judging by the times,it is just a bit longer than 4k), it is possible that I would have placed 3rd among the woman.

Few days later....
I heard the reason why there was no 10k race. Because there was no enough water in water works. So few hours before the race, 10k race was changed 5k race. Studying Spanish is more important than training.
